He love to ride his bike but is unable to walk long distances. I find this mandatory dismount an ADA violation. It is unsafe for him to ride on a road instead of the green belt due to his other handicapping conditions and safety issues.

Comments:I remember when the land in question was ponds and brush, Strawberry Lane bridge was used. Six wheels ATV's used this area to play in. When the sub was built I looked forward to more green belt to ride like everyone else at the time. Most still rode it even when signs were up, aluminum irrigation pipe was put across the path as a fence or detourent but we all still rode. Never was approched by anyone. After reading all this it makes me wonder how someone like Evans became a mayor, still acts like a joker. Needs to wake up and admit he has acted in only his best benifit and step out of politics.

Comments:Back in 1990, I witnessed the same problem on the section of the greenbelt that connects the Albertsons HQ section with Barber Park. One of the millionairs that had a mansion built on the greenbelt even had a broken down cement truck burried in the path late one night. It was to stop the construction of the bike belt. To this day, it's a gravel trail for hikers only. Criminal.

Comments:I ride my bike almost every day from Lakeland Village to Glenwood. I must use Riverside Drive. Sometimes the path that runs along the cow pasture that connects Lakeland Village to the Riverside Drive neighborhood is flooded and I must take State Street, a very dangerous alternate route. I live right on the greenbelt path and yet, I cannot use it on my bike. These people have stolen public property and should be in jail. The codgers who monitor this are ignorant and rude to first time users who do not see the signs. Hopefully, the courts will put them in their place. I am really looking forward to February.

Comments:I am concerned about a fence built across the river back at the start of the Edgewater Estates subdivision which blocks the existing "walking path", and prevents river access thru that subdivision as well as through the Wolf Creek river subdivision. This is contrary to Garden City's 1990 Greenbelt Master Plan which calls for a 70 foot setback from the river bank. I haven't been able yet to find out if this plan was ever adopted and entered into Code. Do you have any information about this, and about the construction permits for these two subdivisions (did the GC code prohibit building within the 70 foot setback)?

Comments:When we lived in RV in the 80's, it was my feeling that the riverfront residents did not want anyone on that stretch of greenbelt. We lived there and were still approached by 'unfriendly' people asking who we were and where we lived. That was when the greenbelt was not open to the public because the development had not been completed. When I commplained about the tree roots, general feeling was RV did not want to maintain the path because they did not want bikes to use it. The condition of the path discouraged public use. This was in the 80's. It is my belief that the greenbelt was purposely not maintained when it should have been, to purposely discourage public use. We ride on the Greenbelt. Who wants to dismount 1.5 mile? RV has successfully diverted bike traffic to other side or alternate routes. I believe this has been in the planning for a long time.

Comments:I recently submitted this letter to the editor of the Idaho Statesman: Thank you for the editorial of Nov 9, 2010 supporting the opening of the Garden City Greenbelt through Riverside Village. Please don't perpetuate the excuse that the path on the north of the river is too narrow to accept bicycle traffic. Garden City operates a pickup truck the length of the path regularly to pick up garbage, and residents of Riverside Village use the path for maintenance vehicles. It will be great to extend the Greenbelt south of the river, when a bridge can be built in 5 or 10 years; but a path already exists on the north. The only obstacle to bicycle usage is the ticket issued by Garden City officers.

Comments:I am outraged by this 1 1/2 miles of banned bike riding. I took my stepson and 9 year old grand-daughter to the Greenbelt starting at Eagle (the first time we've left from this point, it's the closest from where I live) and we had planned on riding to Glenwood to eat lunch at Sunrise. When we got to the unmount part, I wasn't wearing my glasses and thought it was just a map showing the next section (my stepson didn't read the sign, he just flew by following me) There would have been no way that I would have had my grand-daughter walk her bike that far. How much difference is their between walking a bike to riding a bike?? We rode through that section without seeing one person. On our way back, a man sitting on his bike, talking on his phones was hanging on the unmount sign, so we couldn't even read that one (didn't think we needed to read it anyway) shortly thereafter, we encountered some older couples, who ordered us off the path (not too nicely) we walked our bikes off the path thr

Comments:I really appreciate your passion on this subject, and agree that the north side greenbelt along Riverside should have be open use for the past twenty plus years as intended. However, that is not what happened, nor where we are at today of course. We can’t change the past. Looking forward, where do we want to be? For my family, like to both bicycle and hike on the greenbelt, and see a benefit to walking only sections like we have in East Boise. But this only works if you can access greenbelt on both sides of the river. I think the best solution is to install the pedestrian bridge (~$800K -$1M) just north of Eagle Island. Bikers on the south side of river, hikers on the north. This is a benefit to all of Treasure Valley, so the bill should be share with all cities, or at minimum, with Boise, Garden City, and Eagle. Rather than spending your considerable energy and resources fighting Garden City, why don’t you lead them to a win-win solution? For example, have your lawyers network wit

Comments:This is a bad law; and like all bad laws the fastest, cheapest and easiest way to get rid of it is not to spend years lobbying, begging, imploring, supplicating to the very politicians who enacted it; but rather to challenge it in court by violating it and then having a jury Nullify or Veto the law, by finding you not guilty even though you openly admit you broke their so-called "law". Jury nullifications have given entire nations freedom of religion and freedom of assembly - England 1670, freedom of speech and freedom of the press - America 1735, the right to harbor and help runaway slaves - America 1850's, the right for labor unions to strike - America 1880's, the right to consume alcohol - America 1920's, and more. And today right here in Boise Idaho, if this group wants to and is willing to learn how and do the work juries in Idaho can give you and perhaps all of America - THE FREEDOM TO RIDE YOUR BIKE. This law is only one assault on your freedom to bicycle. Right now, government

Comments:with my Lady in Eagle. The last few months I have been exploring different ways to ride to work and back. As it turns out, the most enjoyable and direct route is right through mom's back yard! I knew that the Riverside Village residents have since back in the day tried to keep people out of that area, but heck, it is public land as provided by the state of Idaho. What just about had me riding straight into the bushes with bafflement was the sign I saw today saying that their is an ordinance endorsed by the same city continued from below: that I started my business in (a bicycle shop no less!) telling me that the public bicycle path I was riding was illegal for such purposes! I guess I'm going to have a hard time waving to mom as I ride by when they put the hand cuffs on me....

Comments:Back in 1990 my family moved to Riverside Village. As an avid cyclist, I immediately began riding the greenbelt bicycle path behind our house. Granted it was horribly bumpy pavement and had no useful through route, but I liked it back there. The "no trespassing" signage was a bit baffling, but heck, I was local(!) so no need for immediate concern. A few years later, the pavement was (sort of) torn out and replaced with road grade. The riding was a lot smoother after that. Unfortunately, "no bicycle" signs popped up shortly after. I was not amused, but soon after I moved closer to downtown (I was living with my parents and they stayed put) and forgot all about those peculiar antics. Fast forward to present day. It has ben over fifteen years and I still enjoy cycling and supporting our nations independence from foreign oil by commuting on a bicycle. Where this story comes full circle is now I have a business in Garden City, and to support the success of that business I moved in

Comments:Our green belt is the greatest attraction to all our communities, as well as a non-polluting transportation for many urban travelers. It greatly increases the value of any neighborhood. Private property concerns are nothing less than greed. My own Fathervolunteered many hours and days of surveying to the original greenbelt. Many people had to fight private property concerns for the the public good. We support this public treasure for as long as there is our river.

Comments:As a new arrival to the area, I was honestly attracted to the area near the river for the opportunity to enjoy the riverside environment. To learn that one city government has chosen to unilaterally break a contract they signed and by so doing interrupt the continuous nature of the greenbelt is really a shock. I've only lived in Garden City a few months, but I'd respectfully suggest that embracing the greenbelt concept would substantially increase the value, and tax base, of Garden City's riverfront areas.

Comments:For the "critical mass" ride this saturday (3/15) on the GC greenbelt/walking path, I would urge all riders to dismount and walk their bikes legally along the path. Respect the current laws or you will feed the haters.
Are you a resident of Garden City? Almost. I live on the greenbelt just east of Glenwood.

Comments:I have been on the Parks and Waterways Committee since its inception in 2006. My belief is that there has been a 'smoke and mirrors' approach to the RV greenbelt usage. Last year, i believe, the sign was changed from a handmade 'private property' sign to an official garden city sign. The only P&W committee members pursuing this were the ones living in SV, including Souza and Higgins. Its time to take it Back!!!

Comments:Unfortunatly I am going to out of town and unable to attend the GC city council meeting, but I urge all who are interested in this matter to be there as a show of support. I applaud Mr. Seger's stand on restraint concerning matters of civil disobedience, even though I may not be in complete agreement with him on this. The RV residents and the city council need to be confronted on the continued use of the term "nature trail" when historically this was never the intent of the bike path.

Comments:As a resident of Lakeland Village, I applaud your work and your detailed and careful uncovering of these pertinent documents. It seems that if Riverside can have a walking path only, then why not Lakeland too. Many of our backyards are only inches from the path. What is fair play here? WE support the bike path for all. We in Lakeland Village support you in your efforts. Thank you! We have never trusted the "city council" !

Comments:I used to live out in that end of boise, off of Gary Lane, about 15-16 years ago and always rode my bike along the river there. This sounds to much like the land grab of the "nature trail" along the river over here in southeast Boise that restricts bike access to what was once one of the sweeter trails along the river. And in this instance, it was the developer again who took away what was traditionally a multi-use trail to give us the opportunity to ride on the "sidewalk" alongside of picturesque Parkcenter Blvd. Enough is enough!!!! I'm a child of the '60's! Is it time for some good ol' victimless civil disobedience??

Comments:Thanks for the work you have done. Let me know if I/we can help. My wife & I remember about when we first moved to Boise that Riverside Village agreed to build a bike path and we have been disappointed ever since. Maybe we need to take Evans and GC to court! Perhaps the State of Idaho, Parks & Rec, etc. might want to do the job. It seems that GC looks the other way with this path, clearing of vegetation on the river banks (state property, eh?), and building of porches, swings, etc. on state property. Smells of a conspiracy to violate state laws...

Comments:First the double left turn lanes from Marigold to Glenwood now closed bike paths and bent rules for politicians living in Riverside Village. Whatever's best for John Evans and his cronies on the north side. What's next for the south side of the river? Gaudy billboards and more mini-malls? Looks like I voted for the wrong people. See you at the polls. Good job Gary Segers. Let me know how I can help.

Comments:This ordinance is represents everything that is wrong with politics in Idaho. When an individual with a direct financial interest is permitted to use his political power in an attempt to relive himself of that financial obligation, democracy starts to break down. In an age of global warming, red air quality alerts, $3/gallon gas and the terrorism it supports, it is simply morally wrong to have this myopic view of the world. I am truly embarrassed to be a citizen of Garden City.
